Fencing for Acreage and Lifestyle Blocks
Around Dubbo there are plenty of properties where a back fence means a few hundred metres, not thirty. Rural fencing is a different job, and it pays to have a fencer who does it regularly.
Whether you are fencing a new lifestyle block on acreage at Eulomogo or Firgrove, replacing a tired boundary, splitting paddocks for horses or stock, or putting up post and rail along the front, the basics are the same: solid strainer assemblies at the corners and gates, posts at the right spacing for the stock you keep, and wire strained properly so the fence stays tight for years.
The country around Dubbo runs from town lifestyle blocks to grazing and cropping land. Clay soils that crack in dry spells and go soft after rain are hard on strainer posts, so footings and bracing matter. Call 02 5300 7325 to talk it through.

What Does Rural Fencing Cost?
Rural fencing is priced per metre, and the range is wide. These are typical figures from published 2026 guides.
| Fence | Typical range | What drives the price |
|---|---|---|
| Plain wire stock fence | About $5 to $12 per metre | Number of wires, post spacing, terrain |
| Ringlock or hinge joint | About $10 to $20 per metre | Mesh type, top wire, terrain |
| Post and rail | About $60 to $190 per metre | Timber, number of rails, mesh infill |
| Farm gate, hung | Often a few hundred dollars and up | Width, strainers, access |
Long runs, rocky or hard ground, clearing the fence line and access all change the price. Try the fencing cost estimator, or call 02 5300 7325 for a free written quote.

Rural Fencing Questions
Does my rural neighbour have to share the cost?
Usually, for a dividing fence. The NSW Dividing Fences Act applies to rural boundaries too, and a "sufficient" fence takes into account how both properties are used, for example whether either side runs stock. See our cost guide.
Do I need to clear the fence line first?
A clear line makes the job faster and cheaper. Some fencers can clear it for you. Check whether any native vegetation rules apply before clearing; your council or Local Land Services can advise.
Can you fence to keep kangaroos or wild dogs out?
Yes. Exclusion fencing is taller with mesh to the ground and costs more per metre than standard stock fencing. Mention it when you get in touch.
